Kenya, Africa
So this trip was taken years before I even started this blog, but this trip is close to my heart that I decided to blog about it anyways.
I went on this trip in August 2013 (Almost T HR E E years ago) with the church I was attending at the time and boy did my life change.
At the time I was preparing to go to Europe, but as I prepared myself mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually I knew that Europe was not where the Lord was calling me. So I withdrew from the trip and little did I know that the Lord was going to prepare me for something greater. Kenya believe it?
The entire process was such a humbling, yet stretching season for me.
When I first applied to this trip the team was already full, so I was put on a waiting list.
I was honestly discouraged by that and the fact that I had no idea how in the world I would pay for a trip like this.
I ended up getting on the team and was 100 % funded by donations that friends, family and church members blessed me with.
The trip itself was amazing, these are a few highlights:
- This was the first time I had flown 23 + hours on a plane. I was a little scared, but pretty much slept most of the flight.
- Kenya is 10 hours ahead from Los Angeles, so adjusting was a little difficult the first few days.
- My team and I were out there for a total of 2 weeks, which was the longest I have ever been out the country, but sadly it seemed a lot shorter.
- I met and made so many friends out there, which I still keep in touch with today.
- When I first met my husband, he had just got back from his trip to Africa, he kept a journal from his time there. Who would have known that a year later, we'd be dating and I would have the opportunity to finish the journal he started.
- I can officially say that I have been in the middle of the equator.
- I learned to not take things for granted. (Like a working toilet, warm water, a roof over my head, shoes on my feet, food to eat.)
- I fell in love with the culture and history of Africa.
- Africa has the most breath taking sunrises I have and will probably ever see.
- Mosquito bites are no fun.
- Put down an African safari on your bucket list.
- Healthcare in Kenya is very saddening. We got to visit a hospice while we were there, it's crazy how they don't have any of the fancy machines, equipment, or just medical advancements like we do here, yet they get by.
Although, I am probably missing 100 more highlights from this trip here are some that stood out to me the most.
Enjoy glimpses of my trip through pictures I was able to take.
